Water saving handshower

Conventional shower heads without water-saving technology consume an average of 18 liters of water per minute.
The installation of a flow-efficient shower head the water consumption can be reduced significantly. Our shower heads that come  in a flat, contemporary design , save by its much lower consumption of hot water per minute, ultimately more CO2 than a car produced in travelling a distance of one kilometer.

The water flow is reduced to 8 liters per minute. Our hand held showers with up to 78 jets and several types of shower jet functions  promise high comfort and are resistant to calcification. They only need minimal maintenance. You can choose between several functions such as rain shower, massage shower or a combination of both. Saving the environmentcan be fun! Technology with no loss of comfort-even long hair can be washed quickly and thoroughly!

Water saving aerators

Aerators (or faucet aerators), which are screwed into the spout of the faucet, provide a uniform and splash-free waterflow. The water consumption is reduced by over 50% by the mixing soft air into water jet.
Thus, washing hands is not only enjoyable, but it also saves money significantly by reducing the flow rate.
The amount of water can be reduced quite easily by an faucet aerator without loss any of comfort, because air is added simply to the water. From a normal 12 to 15 liters per minute of water flow, limitedto only about 5 liters per minute . That means (depending on your rate) a possible saving of up to 100 € a year.
Such aerators are available in any hardware store, you can also buy them online.

If you don´t have a nice and even warterjet anymore, but spray in different directions, it is time to replace the aerator or the inside bets, since it will probably be calcified and / or very dirty.

Save Water

The scarcity of water in Europe is increasing, caused by climate change and waste. The EU Commission estimates that there will be a significant water shortage in many European regions by 2050.

saver water in the EU

Especially the south of Europe is affected  - hence the authorities in Brussels are looking for ways  to encourage water conservation.
However, against appropriate media reports, there will be no binding rules for private households on how to save water, said EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnik: “I want to emphasize that the Commission currently has no plans to require water-efficient taps in any member country. ”
But please do not forget: Water is an essential resource!
With a few technical changes and just little effort, it is possible for anyone to save significant amounts of drinking water in their household.

Flow restrictors

Save water with flow restrictors!

It’s easy to save water: If you install the right accessories in your bathroom and toilet, you don´t have to worry about the next water bill.
According to statistics, 15 years ago every German has consumed 148 liters daily drinking water.
Today, together with Belgium, Germany is in the rear end in terms of water consumption in the developed world. Meanwhile, the Germans use 20 liters of drinking water less  from the tap. The main reason for our leading position in dealing with the precious liquid is the use of water-saving appliances and fixtures.
Especially in the bathroom, you can easily save water by installing flow restrictors and aerators. These appliances reduce water use in the shower and the sink without losing comfort. The water jets are just as strong. Only the water bill will show how effective these easy to assemble products are.

Flow restrictors  are easy to install and not expencive. They are mounted as a ring-shaped
metal inserts at the outlet of the tap or at the shower head. Flow regulators reduce the output cross-section and thus the amount of the passing water.
Since the line pressure is relatively high, the use of a flow restrictor generally leads to no loss of comfort.  If the limiter is applied with an additional aerator, the water jet flow seems to be just as strong as usual.

Mayor hotel chain reduces energy and water consumption

Saving water and energy in hotels
TiM Caspary /

After several years of intensive internal testing Hilton Worldwide presents results of the company’s internal environmental program “Light Stay”.
This program reduced  the water & energy consumption by 5 percent the CO2 emissions by 6 percent in all 1.300 participating hotels in the year 2009. The amount  of waste was reduced by 10 percent and  the water consumption by 2.4 percent.
In other words, these results are truly impressive: The energy saved is roughly equivalent to the annual consumption of 5,700 households, the  reduced CO2 emissions equals  the closure of 34 865 cars  and the saved water would fill more than 650 Olympic swimming pools.
The reduced energy and water consumption means an operating cost saving of approx. 29 million U.S. dollars (about 21 million €)

By the end of 201,1 all 3,50 Hilton Worldwide hotels will use the  Light-stay system
Sustainability in real life by saving energy and water consumption around the world-  reviewed at regular intervals and evaluated based on uniform standards.

Faucet aerator

You can save up to 50% water from showering and washing your hands with a small part on the end of the tap!
A tiny nozzle ensures that the amount of water coming through the pipes – regardless of water pressure-  remains constant. Current models use  6-12 l of water per minute for the shower or faucet.  That is half of the usual amount and it also saves energy!

Flow restrictors are so efficient that the city of Basel (Switzerland), gave them away to its  20,000 residents for free.
These were their thoughts: A family of four saves up to 47 500 liters of water and 1950 kWh of energy per year. The entire city is saving bone billion liters of drinking water and 40 million kWh of energy per year by using flow reducers

The water saving faucet aerators mix tap water with air, so that the jet retains its full capacity with a reduced amount of water. You don´t need to sacrifice comfort- on the contrary, many users find this jet even more pleasant, because the air makes it softer.

Anybody can easily install a flow reducer by himself. You only need a wrench to loosen the connection or the shower hose from the tap.

Virtual water

Each resident in Hamburg, Germany consumes 108 liters per day – a decreasing trend. But in reality it is a different story: If you drink coffee in the morning you  may not forget: It take 140 Liter of water to produce, not in Hamburg, but a some other places in the world. Virtual water is the term for the water, which is needed to produce and transport a product. Including the virtual water, the daily water demand in Germany is about 4,000 liters per person. Relying on products and food from regional and resource-friendly production is a way to reduce the water demand effectively. For example “HAMBURG WATER” offers just that: The drinking water is obtained exclusively from groundwater. 1 liter of Hamburg Drinking water costs 0.16 cents and is therefore 100 and 500 times cheaper than retail offered bottled water, and also it works without any packaging.

Fresh water, thanks to “Paul”

More important then saving water: having fresh drinking water

The new water treatment plant weighs about 20 kg and risers. It is portable and can be worn well on the back. The water backpack PAUL (Portable Unit for Aqua Life Saving) is currently being tested in Indonesia and Haiti by “Terres des Hommes”.

The portable water purifier shall be used in developing countries and crisis areas with no possibilies of water saving. It can be used without power and great technical effort and recycles waste water up to 1200 liters a day. This quantity is sufficient for approximately 500 people.

Existing drinking water treatment plants need lots of energy and staff and also chemicals. Thus it often takes a very long time before they can really be put into operation.
PAUL easily work against it: It is equipped with a special filter membrane, which largely holds back viruses, bacteria and particles and lets  only the water through.
Izt is very simple to operate – there are 4 attached image descriptions meet on the backpack to explain the application.

Other advantages of the system are  the robust and mechanically simple design and the possible rapid transport. The backpacks can be stored ready to use and are therefore transported within a few hours into the mission area. This way you can get water to the people in a life-protective quality. Approximately 300 units of water purifier, “PAUL” are currently already in use.

World Water Day

The World Water Day is held every year since 1993 on March 22. It was proposed & decided  in Agenda 21 of the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro and at the UN General Assembly (in addition to Malaysia’s request) in a resolution on 22nd in December 1992.
The resolution calls on all UN member states to start at the World Water Day concrete actions to make the public aware of the valuable water resources and to save water.
The theme of this year’s World Water Day is “Water for the city“. This theme 2011, recalled that both, the rapidly increasing urbanization in the emerging and developing countries, as well as the impact of urban regions in Europe constitute major challenges to living near  the waters.
Water is vital source for humans, animals and plants. Rivers and other waters are used worldwide as a natural drainage channel. This is a significant threat to the health of residents and users.
It becomes a vicious circle, as rivers (especially in urban areas) are used both for washing and bathing, as well as to serve drinking water.
But even in Europe, we  must focus on to the waters in urban areas, and pay more attention, especially flood-adapted building will remain an important aspect of urban settlement planning.

World Water Day
is to call the people around the world to remember that water is the basis of all life.
All meeting facilities, institutions and organizations that provide water management tasks are pointing out the immeasurable value of clean drinking water on this day.
The theme of World Water Day 1993 “Caring for our water resources is everyone’s business”
(It is everyone’s job to protect our valuable water resources) is more relevant than ever!

Water saving in the hotel

If you want to reduce water consumption, sometimes even repair work wonders:
Vulnerabilities such as dripping faucets and shower heads or a leaking toilet flush should immediately leave the building technician.
One wasted drip per second wasts 6100 full liter per year. For hoteliers and restaurant owners, it is also recommended to replace old and worn fixtures with new ones, that are limiting the flow and there by save water. The comfort for the guest does not suffer.
Flow and watersaving showerheads or shower with built water flow restrictors can be bought relatively inexpensively.
In the selection of toilets you should be looking for a water-saving option.

The building technology offers significant savings:
Both washing machines and dishwashers should be run only as often as necessary and as completely filled. Make use of the available savings programs! This pays off in the medium term, even if it is necessary to purchase additional equipment in order to do less washes and still have always enough clean dishes and clothes at their disposal.

There is also saving potential in hot water. The hotel owner should set the hot water system so that  the taps do not exeed 60 degrees Celsius. Each degree must otherwise be cooled by additional cold water.
Waste heat from dishwashers, ovens, ventilation systems, cooking equipment and refrigeration systems can be used to heat water. This requires the installation of a heat recovery system, which saves and protects the environment.
Please help saving water!
