Save money with a water-saving showerhead!

Saving water in your home

Use a water-saving shower head to cut down on your water consumption when showering without having to give up on comfort. There are, however, huge differences in terms of consumption, price, and quality. A regular shower head uses about 16 liters of water per minute. Savings of up to 50% (water, energy, and hence, your money) are realistic. In our opinion, hand-held shower heads with a consumption of less than 8 liters per minute cease to offer a comfortable and desirable shower experience. They simply use too little water.  There is a limit as to how much you can reduce the water flow rate—there comes a point when you simply don’t get properly wet anymore … A water-saving shower head with multiple settings options (e.g., massage jet) certainly offers an ideal combination of saving water and having an exclusive shower experience.

In addition, there are water-saving shower heads with, e.g., “Fog”, “Massage”, “Soft”, „Rain/Soft” jet types. If you are looking for a “Rain” shower head please make sure to check that the shower head is 110mm in diameter or more. As a general rule, the larger the shower disc the softer and more comortable the water jet. Modern water-saving shower units are mostly very pleasing to the eye and now offer a shower experience very similar to that of hand-held shower heads.

To make sure your water-saving showerhead enjoys a long lifecycle, we recommend the following care: Never use abrasive cloths or detergents. You should also avoid the use of detergents containing solvents or acids, descaling agents, distilled white vinegar, and detergents with acetic acids. They all have corrosive properties—your shower head will get scratched and lose its shine. Simply use mild soap and a slightly wet cloth to polish your shower head. Then rinse and dry it. Drying your shower head after each use will avoid the buildup of limescale.

If you want to save water without replacing your existing shower head we recommend purchasing a flow restrictor. This upgrade product is screwed onto the shower hose at the water outlet. It is easy to fit and you can save a lot of water this way.

And finally, another, slightly less serious tip for saving water in your home—if you don’t shower alone, you can save at least another 50% of water and energy …

Public Water Supply in Germany

Almost every resident of Germany, is connected to public water supply –  luxury circumstances that are rarely noticed anymore…

It is striking that the price for drinking- and waste water has increased over the last fifteen years by almost half. During this period, in Germany the average bill rose from 115 € to 171 € per  year per household member. A family of four pays accordingly to that between 260 and almost 2000 €/year. Yet, the water consumption has declined eight liters a day (per person) over  the past fifteen years due to the high water prices and growing environmental consciousness.

Nevertheless, the germans still use about 125 liters of drinking water per day, of which we consume:

32%  for toilet flushing
30% for bathing and showering
14% for laundry
6% for cleaning (face, hands and teeth)
6% for washing dishes
4% to water for garden plants
3% for household cleaning
2% for car washing

Help us to save precious water! With an water saving aerator, you can reduce  water consumption and costs by 50%!  A savings aerator reduces the water flow – by the adding air to the jet the beam still  feels thick and soft. These aerators resist limescale and work for very long time.

Saving water and energy can be very easy!

What does water have to do with saving energy?  You can save a lot of energy costs if you reduce your personal water consumption because everybody uses heated water while taking a shower, clean clothes or wash dishes. You don´t have to suffer any comfort and the effects of smart use of warm water shows quickly on your bank account.

For example:

Compared to a five minute shower, taking a full bath takes three times as much   water and energy. You save even more heated water if you install a water saving showerhead that reduces (without hardly noticing) the water flow up the 50 percent. Good models are available for as little as € 15,–.

Water saving in the hotel

If you want to reduce water consumption, sometimes even repair work wonders:
Vulnerabilities such as dripping faucets and shower heads or a leaking toilet flush should immediately leave the building technician.
One wasted drip per second wasts 6100 full liter per year. For hoteliers and restaurant owners, it is also recommended to replace old and worn fixtures with new ones, that are limiting the flow and there by save water. The comfort for the guest does not suffer.
Flow and watersaving showerheads or shower with built water flow restrictors can be bought relatively inexpensively.
In the selection of toilets you should be looking for a water-saving option.

The building technology offers significant savings:
Both washing machines and dishwashers should be run only as often as necessary and as completely filled. Make use of the available savings programs! This pays off in the medium term, even if it is necessary to purchase additional equipment in order to do less washes and still have always enough clean dishes and clothes at their disposal.

There is also saving potential in hot water. The hotel owner should set the hot water system so that  the taps do not exeed 60 degrees Celsius. Each degree must otherwise be cooled by additional cold water.
Waste heat from dishwashers, ovens, ventilation systems, cooking equipment and refrigeration systems can be used to heat water. This requires the installation of a heat recovery system, which saves and protects the environment.
Please help saving water!

Water – one of the most valuable resources on our planet

The European Water- Directive (WRLL) came into force on 22.12.2000. It obligates the EU-states to protect it rivers, lakes and groundwater . The fundamental  target  is to archieve a  “good water” status  no later than in 2027 .

The protection of water resources should not be passed solely on the political level and industry-environmental awareness begins in basis! If every individual in the world is aware of its own budget, and acts reasonable, it can eventually add up to significant result!

So at this point, here some tips on how you can actively protect the environment:

  • Repair dripping faucets: one dripping tap is wasting  up to 5000 liters of water per year!
  • Use modern watersaver for the sanitary sector, such as a low preassure showerhead or new faucet aerator that save water by aeration
  • Recycled paper (paper towels, tissues, toilet paper): It takes less water to produce recycled paper  than for new (or colored) paper  Thus, at the same time forests and water resources are protected.
  • No chemicals down the drain: medicines, paints, inks, oils and solvents are hazardous waste, which can be dropped off at the chemical wasteboxes, it pollutes the groundwater!
  • use washing-powder depending of the hardness of your water (your water company can give you this information) overdosing washing-powder is unnecessary costing your money and damages the waters
  • Careful use of cleaning agents: use only small amounts, since they often contain environmentally harmful substances!
  • Environmentally friendly car wash: Use a professional car wash. They work with water treatment plants – the washing water can be used multiple times!
  • Raising ducks: no wild birds or fish feeding in stagnant water! By the discharge of nutrients, the water is turbid and uneatenffood ferments further in the water and deprives the fish life-giving oxygen!

Maybe you think by yourself of one or other indication of how the environment and our water resources can be protected?
The implementation of the WRRL is one of the greatest opportunities for protection water.

It must be strictly monitored and should not be overused by exceptions!

Water saving -made easy

More and more of the population are aware of how precious and important water is. Drinking water is the most important food that can not be replaced! It is also important for the environment!
Here are some tips:
• shower instead of taking baths: a bath uses about the same amount of water,  as 3 full showers
• When brushing your teeth turn off the water!  Don´t let the unused water  run for minutes  in the drain.
• dish-washing machines are more economical than hands-a dishwasher for 12 place settings needs about  19 l water. In the sink are  about 50 liters of water and almost twice the amount of electricity is needed to heat it. Ensure full utilization of the dishwasher!
• When purchasing new bathroom facilities ensure that they are equiped with water saving devices :
a toilet cistern with saving function or the installation of a stop device can save 50% of  water
• Left over water (eg, coffee machine), does not necessarily have to be poured in the
Drain. It can  still be used for watering the flowers.
• Appliances upgrade: watersaving showerheads can save as much as 50%
Flow restrictor: they reduce the amount of water flowing per minute without sacrificing comfort by 30-50%.

Remember: For a sixth of the world population, water is pure luxury! Please act resposible.

Water availability

The term water availability (from UNESCO also called freshwater resources) is the amount of fresh water a person can have  per year. Depending on the amount it is referred to as water shortages. Occasionally, even to water crisis.
In the European part of the world there is water in abundance. Whoever is thirsty needs only to turn up the faucet. Washing hands as often as you wish and splash if you like, you can be running the tub full.

It is difficult to imagine that there are droughts in other countries around the world and that  people have to suffer thirst and actually may never wash properly.
Many children around the world have to travel miles and miles of paths to fetch drinking water from the well.
Many people die, mostly children, as they have indeed ample water, but this is dirty.
Ca.6000 people (4000 children) die every day from diseases caused by contaminated drinking water.
They are every year 1.5 million children under age 5 die from diarrhea because they drink dirty water!
A third of the world’s population suffers from acute shortage of clean water.

The world community knows about this problem but it has not done enough in recent decades to change this situation.
Global warming experts have even warned against a worsening water shortages in poor countries.
Today there are more refugees in Africa because of water shortages, drought and climate change than by war and civil war.

Saving precious drinking water is beneficial for you and the environment! Start with the installation of a water saving faucet aerator, low pressure showerhead and flow restrictor and also review all seals regulary!
